Battlefield-Like 50v50 Shooter Squad Gets Massive 6.0 Update, Focusing On Teamwork

The 50v50 military shooter Squad got a big new update today, September 27, that made significant changes to the FPS. According to developer Offworld Industries, players can expect a "complete overhaul" of infantry combat with a new focus on teamwork in the 6.0 update.

Offworld said it's overarching aim with the update is to deepen the existing core gameplay and making sure Squad is approachable to newcomers who might feel overwhelmed by the game's steep learning curve.

Here are some of the core changes in the new Squad update. First, the suppression system has seen a "complete rework." As explained by Offworld, the change "reduces a player's combat effectiveness by obscuring the player's view and decreasing their ability to aim, encouraging them to reposition to get a better tactical footing." Brian Cox Doesn't Regret Passing On Game Of Thrones, And Here's Why

Actor Brian Cox could have starred in Season 1 of Game of Thrones as Robert Baratheon, but the actor passed on the role. Mark Addy got the part and played it memorably until the character's demise in the show's seventh episode. Cox recently discussed passing on the show all those years ago, saying he has no regrets, in part because the character died so soon.

"[That] one was only limited, I'd be dead within four episodes," Cox told GQ. Baratheon actually died in Episode 7, but he was definitely a short-lived character. "So I saw the shortness of that," Cox added.

Baratheon was not only written to be a short-lived character, but the pay was not very good at the time, Cox said. "It was early days, so the fees were not particularly wonderful. They did very well on it, but initially it was 'suck it and see,'" he said.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Fortnite Is Getting A Star Wars Makeover With Lightsabers And Ahsoka Out Now

With the first season of her Disney+ series ending next week, Ahsoka is Force-jumping into a different spotlight: Fortnite. We already knew the Star Wars hero would join the game's massive roster this season thanks to the Chapter 4 Season 4 battle pass details, but what we didn't know until now is that her arrival would be marked by another Star Wars makeover across the battle royale island.

Like some Jedi and Sith characters before her, Ahsoka will appear on the island as an NPC and offer players Jedi training, which plucks them off the map for a brief moment, only to return them equipped with a white lightsaber and Force abilities. No Last Of Us Game Or TV Show Updates Coming On Last Of Us Day

Don't hold your breath for a new Last of Us game reveal or updates on Season 2 of the HBO series tomorrow. Developer Naughty Dog is trying to manage expectations ahead of Last of Us Day, which occurs on September 26 each year.

On Twitter/X, the official Naughty Dog account shared that a special stream will start at 9 AM PT/ 12 PM ET tomorrow "featuring announcements focused on art, merch, and more." That "more," however, doesn't mean new info on The Last of Us Season 2 or updates on the multiplayer title. The studio stated it "will not be discussing any future game or TV show projects."

That said, Naughty Dog has been relatively open about the state of the franchise this year. Earlier this month, Neil Druckmann told Entertainment Tonight that HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 is "ready to go" once the Hollywood writers strike ends. A tentative agreement means it may be over soon. Resident Evil Village iOS Launches Just In Time For Halloween

After announcing that Resident Evil Village will be coming to iPhone and iPad during the recent Apple keynote, Capcom has revealed the game will be available on the Apple App Store on October 30, just in time for the Halloween season.

The game will be available specifically for the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad Air, and iPad devices, as it runs using the new devices' A17 chipset. Sonic CD Was A Bold Vision Of What Sonic Could Be

Sonic CD is celebrating its 30-year anniversary today, September 23, 2023. Below, we look back at how its experimental ideas influenced the series going forward. Trying to get a group of Sonic fans to agree on anything related to the franchise is hard enough, but asking for their feelings about Sonic CD might get you more divided responses than any other game in the series. Out of all the classic Sonic titles, CD stands out as a very strange outlier in its game design--which leads to some very strong opinions from the fandom. But the reasons why it's so different from its cartridge-based brothers are themselves fascinating. In many ways--and quite fittingly, given its time-travel theme--Sonic CD feels like the start of a different evolutionary path the Sonic series could have taken into the future, but didn't. After the first Sonic the Hedgehog became a runaway success, Sega immediately went to work on follow-up games. Two of Sonic's primary development staff, Yuji Naka and Hirokazu Yasuhara, joined future PlayStation console architect Mark Cerny at Sega Technical Institute with a few other Japanese staff in the US to create Sonic the Hedgehog 2--a very unusual America/Japan co-production for its time. Meanwhile, other original Sonic Team members stayed back home in Japan to plan a Sonic game for the fledgling Mega-CD (Sega CD in western markets) add-on. The system was floundering in its home market but looked likely to do significantly better abroad, much in the same way the Mega Drive (aka the Genesis) had. With Nintendo poised to release its own CD system add-on, having a show-stopper like Sonic on its CD platform would be a tremendous boon in what looked to be the upcoming CD-ROM wars. Following Controversial Changes, Unity Unveils Revamped Policy For Developers

Unity has walked back parts of its new Runtime Fee policy, which would have charged game developers per game install. Now, users of Unity Personal or Plus will not be charged, those using Pro or Enterprise can opt for a 2.5% revenue share instead, and only upcoming versions of Unity will apply the fee. In an open letter, Unity Create lead Marc Whitten outlined the changes. The Runtime Fee policy will start only with the next Long Term Support (LTS) version of Unity, which will launch in 2024. Any game made with prior versions of Unity, including the current 2022 LTS, will not be charged. Only games made with Unity Pro or Enterprise levels will be eligible for the free, and no game with less than $1 million in trailing 12-month revenue will be charged any additional fee. Any developer that would be charged a runtime fee can opt instead for a 2.5% revenue share. Developers will always be billed the lesser of the two potential fees. Unity has also changed the language from "installs" to "initial engagements." According to Unity, this means "the moment that a distinct end user successfully and legitimately acquires, downloads, or engages with a game powered by the Unity Runtime, for the first time in a distribution channel." The film chronicles his ascent from poor immigrant to the top of Miami's criminal underworld--and then his precipitous fall from grace, which culminated in the "Say hello to my little friend" scene for which the movie is most famous. The R-rated Scarface is lewd, crude, and full of violence, but the big conversation topic on the film in recent years has been that Pacino, who is of Italian descent, is playing a Latino man with a thick Cuban accent--it's not in the best taste, certainly. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora received a new story trailer as part of Sony's latest PlayStation State of Play, showing off more of what players can expect from Ubisoft's upcoming open-world FPS. The trailer spotlights some of the unique ways players will be able to roam Pandora, such being able to leap onto the back of a flying banshee during free fall or ride a direhorse across the game's stunning vistas. It also sets the stakes, as players step into the shoes of a Na'vi who was abducted by humans from the Resource Development Administration at a young age and trained in their ways, only to be rescued 15 years later. From there players will learn about Pandora, Na'vi culture, and what's at stake as the forces of the RDA look to pillage Pandora for their own selfish needs. But finding all the game's recipes could take a long time--not to mention some aren't even available right away. In order to help you master the kitchen and become Fae Farm's top chef, use our recipe list to cook up the game's many dishes. How to cook in Fae Farm There are different tiers, so to speak, when it comes to cooking in Fae Farm. A simple campfire will be introduced to you early on in the game's guided tutorial, and with that you can prepare basic food items such as grilled greens and broiled shellfish. This will soon be replaced, however, in favor of more sophisticated cooking methods, namely the beverage station, food prep table, and cooking hearth. It's a bit like Overcooked in that way, with physical stations of your own design allowing you to perform different steps of the cooking process. When you see ingredients that say "chopped" or "sliced," for example, you'll need the Food Prep Table. With only the campfire, your options are severely limited, but don't worry. The game is designed to reward you with better tools in relatively short order. And with these more complex methods, the recipe book really opens up to you. These improved kitchen stations should come naturally as you play the game, which is good because some recipes require things like crops that can't be purchased and planted until you hit certain level requirements anyway. For example, potato seeds are unavailable until you reach level 10, meaning any recipe that requires potatoes won't be available to you. Ahsoka Being Added To Star Wars Rides At Disney Theme Parks

Though her own adventures continue on Disney+, Ahsoka Tano is preparing to join another corner of the Star Wars universe. As announced at Destination D23 in Florida, the character will soon be joining the ranks of the Star Tours ride at Disney parks around the world in spring 2024. It remains to be seen how much Ahsoka will be included, or even how it will be done. Details weren't revealed during the panel, so it remains to be seen if Rosario Dawson, who plays Ahsoka on the Disney+ series, will reprise the role. This comes as both Ahsoka and General Hera Syndulla have been added to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland in California. Epic Games chief creative officer Donald Mustard is leaving the company. Mustard confirmed the news on Twitter/X, saying he plans to step down later this month. Mustard has been making games for a quarter of a century, but most recently he was a top boss at Epic and one of the leaders of the incredibly popular Fornite. Before that, he worked at GlyphX Games on Advent Rising before starting his own company, Chair Entertainment, with his brother Geremy. That studio is known for the games Shadow Complex and the Infinity Blade series. Epic Games bought the company in 2008, and Mustard rose through the ranks to become chief creative officer. Marketing executive Pete Hines said fans can expect the company to "keep working on it," in part because he is hopeful the game will still be enjoyed in 10 years on Xbox Game Pass. "We are always in a process of learning, so that's not new for us. We don't like failing to meet our players' expectations. Six years ago, CouchJockey was a small-time Twitch streamer, broadcasting Hearthstone in an attempt to make a name for himself. Today, he's the creative director for The Convergence, one of the most popular and acclaimed Elden Ring mods, which adds many new bosses and magic spells to the game, as well as overhauling many of its more controversial aspects. It's been quite a journey for the modder, and he says it all started with a simple "magic mod" for Dark Souls 3, a project that blossomed into something far more ambitious. During his early streaming days, CouchJockey was inspired by no-hit runs of Dark Souls 3 in the style of mavens like HappyHob and Distortion2, who popularized the concept. He completed a number of magic-focused hitless challenges over the next few months, gaining quite a few fans in the process. However, after hundreds of hours playing Dark Souls 3, a fellow player named TigerG92 heard him complaining about the lack of spell options in a certain mod on-stream, and Tiger suggested that they try making new spells themselves. That was the beginning of the Convergence. The Souls series on PC has come a long way from the infamously broken Dark Souls 1 port, which couldn't even run higher than 30fps. A small but dedicated modding community has formed around each game in the series, and there are a handful of well-known, well-regarded mods for each entry, such as Daughters of Ash for Dark Souls 1 (as well as the upcoming Nightfall). If you're familiar with Dark Souls 3 modding, you've certainly heard of the Convergence before, and that's for a good reason: It's a shockingly polished product, even by the high standards of From Software itself. This is the first Japanese domestic Godzilla film release since 2016's acclaimed Shin Godzilla, which reimagined the Kaiju as an apocalyptic threat, and is written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki. Like the first teaser trailer, this new look at Godzilla Minus One ahead of its November release doesn't feature much footage of Godzilla, but when he does appear, he's essentially an extinction-level event that has the potential to destroy Japan.
