Starfield Already Has A Funko Pop, And It Is Adorable

There's a galaxy to explore in Starfield, and if you're dreading the idea of navigating through the endless void of space on your own, this adorable robot companion is perfect company. This new limited-edition Funko Pop of VASCO, your loyal expeditionary robot in Starfield, is now available for preorder and will cost $18, with a shipping date of February 2024. This collectible will be available in limited numbers, according to Funko, and purchases are limited to three per customer. See on Xbox Gear Store It's VASCO!Gallery Like other Funko Pop toys, this little replica of VASCO is made from vinyl materials, has a big head, and an unblinking eye that's always watching you. Always. Unlike those figures, this design actually works really well and makes VASCO look adorable, while the white, red, and yellow paint on top of its frame gives it a nice visual pop. In Starfield, VASCO will accompany players on planetary expeditions and is described as a "standard type-8 bipedal chassis" that can carry all of a player's survival gear. Primarily a peaceful assistant, VASCO can defend players as a last resort if necessary. VASCO's name is likely a reference to Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, the first European to reach India by sea in 1498. More Starfield merchandise is available right now if you want to get your gaming setup perfectly themed for Bethesda's space exploration game when it launches in early access on September 1.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Sea Of Stars Review Roundup

After 2018's The Messenger proved the studio's ability to recreate the retro era in a modern game, Sabotage Studio is turning its attention from the 2D Metroidvania genre to turn-based RPGs. Sea Of Stars--which began as a Kickstarter campaign in 2020--is set in The Messenger's universe, and it shows that when it comes to retro-style games, Sabotage is a force to be reckoned with. Reviews so far are universally positive, with many reviewers praising the game's ability to channel the old-school retro feeling throughout the adventure. Many reviewers have compared it to games like Super Mario RPG, Illusion of Gaia, and Chrono Trigger--which are grand comparisons for a brand-new name in the turn-based RPG world. On our sister site Metacritic, Sea Of Stars is currently at 93 for the PS5 version, which is an average of six reviews, while it sits at 89 on PC based on 13 reviews. More reviews are coming in on other consoles, including Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X. The game will also launch on Xbox Game Pass day one, and it will be available on the Extra and Premium tiers of PlayStation Plus.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Theme Parks Are Turning Into Real-Life Video Games, And Minion Land At Universal Studios Is The Next Step

With the opening of Minions Land, Universal Studios Orlando has also introduced a brand-new ride experience themed around the Illumination animated franchise. And while that attraction--Villain-Con: Minion Blast--may be primarily appealing to younger visitors and families, it's also a clear indicator of what Universal believes is the future of its theme parks. It's not enough to simply have an arsenal of rides that cast visitors into the role of passive passengers. Now, Universal wants guests to become the star of their own story. It all started when Universal Studios launched its first Wizarding World of Harry Potter expansion at Universal's Islands of Adventure in 2010. Instead of traveling through the land en route to a ride or gift shop, Islands of Adventure's Hogsmeade brought the Wizarding World franchise to life in a new way, as in-character performers dotted the beautifully crafted recreation of the small town where Harry and his friends went to school. Disney followed suit with Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in 2019, letting guests go on their own adventures on a newly revealed planet in the Star Wars galaxy. However, in the lead-up to the debut of that land at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World, the company shared big and bold ideas of a themed land that was alive and thriving. Unfortunately, many of those ideas never made it past that initial stage. The land wasn't humming with excitement or filled with familiar Star Wars characters. What's more, the promise of your reputation following you around the land based on how well you scored in the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run ride simply never happened.Continue Reading at GameSpot

How To Use Hive Symbols In Destiny 2's Altars Of Summoning

Destiny 2 is once again confusing us with Hive symbols. As you progress through Season of the Witch, you'll inevitably come across Altars of Summoning. The activity itself is already quite involved on its own, and that's without the enigmatic symbols at the start of a Ritual of Induction. As expected, there's a reason for their presence. If you're able to coordinate with your fireteam, you'll be able to gain a buff from them. Here's how to use the Hive symbols in Destiny 2's Altars of Summoning. How to use the Hive symbols at the start of Altars of Summoning Destiny 2's Altars of Summoning have multiple steps. One of them, which kickstarts the activity or a new wave if you join an already running instance, asks you to begin the Ritual of Induction.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Looks Like Konami Doing It Right

Metal Gear Solid is one of the most renowned names in video games, and Konami knows it. Years after its reportedly acrimonious split from series creator Hideo Kojima, the publisher is paying homage to the series along two separate paths. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, one of the most revered games in the series, is getting a remake subtitled Delta. But more presently, Konami is putting out the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, a compilation of the classic MSX/NES games along with the first three games in the Metal Gear Solid series. While Konami is no stranger to compilations--having recently released Castlevania and Contra collections--it does certainly feel like the publisher knows it has something precious on its hands with Metal Gear Solid. As a result, this one is particularly reverent, packing in loads of historical artifacts while letting the games speak for themselves. To start, it's worth pausing to note just how many Metal Gear games this includes. The 8-bit Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2, along with the off-brand Snake's Revenge, together serve as a virtual museum of the series' deepest roots. The three MGS games are nicely preserved and given a clean and sleek UI menu to navigate the games and their various extras. The games themselves are essentially untouched, with a presentation similar to the PS3's HD Editions. There is a brief content warning at the start of every game, noting that some elements may be insensitive by today's standards, but other than that they appear to be direct transfers of the original content. Naturally, the UI has been touched up as well to correspond with the modern controllers. I played the compilation on Nintendo Switch.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Last Of Us Writer Weighs In On Hollywood Strikes, Is Confident Labor Will Prevail

Writer Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, The Last of Us) has shared his thoughts on the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, sharing some strong words and stating his belief that the writers will win. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Mazin said the guilds need to "start over with something new" as opposed to trying to tweak the existing setup. "We have to make some large, sweeping changes, because everything's broken around us," Mazin said. "And there's nowhere else for us to go. Our backs are against the wall as a labor force. We all know writers who have gazillions of dollars. It's not about them. It's about the 95 percent of the union who are the rank and file." Mazin went on to say that, for a few months, members of the AMPTP--the group that represents film and TV studios like Disney, Netflix, and Amazon--were being "delusional." The studios believed they could wait out the writers and actors and that would cause them to fight amongst themselves, Mazin said. If that tactic could have worked before, it won't this time, the writer said.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Assassin's Creed, Fallout, And Final Fantasy Are Coming To Magic: The Gathering

With half of 2023 behind us, Wizards Of The Coast took the opportunity to announce the future of Magic: The Gathering at its Gen Con 2023 panel. However, not only did the company reveal their plans through 2026, but it also confirmed three huge names in gaming for its ever-growing Universes Beyond portfolio: Assassin's Creed, Final Fantasy, and Fallout. Fallout will receive the MTG treatment first, and it will be represented through a set of Commander decks set to release in March 2024. Following names like Warhammer 40K and Doctor Who, the Fallout Commander decks will feature a mixture of brand-new and reprinted cards, all featuring characters, enemies, factions, and locations from Bethesda's post-apocalyptic saga.Magic: The Gathering X Assassin's Creed teaser image Assassin's Creed will come next, as a full booster set spanning the entire AC universe will launch in July 2024. The set will include both new and reprinted cards, all featuring new Assassin's Creed-themed artwork, and the new cards will be "mechanically unique" according to WOTC. Tobey Maguire Says Playing Spider-Man In No Way Home "Reinvigorated" His Interest In Acting

Actor Tobey Maguire returned to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man once again alongside Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Coming back to play the web-slinger helped Maguire feel "reinvigorated" about acting, he said the newly released book, Spider-Man: No Way Home - The Art of the Movie. "Working with Andrew [Garfield] and Tom [Holland] was so dear to me, it really was special--a very rich experience for me, all around," he said, as reported by The Direct. "It kind of reinvigorated my interest in performing. It felt like a real brotherhood, which was what we were aiming for, too, for us and for the characters." "But then to have those dynamics play out--feeling a real connection and love for these guys, and having fun and having a laugh--all of that was energizing and reinvigorating for me," he added.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Grab A Great Handheld Nintendo Switch Controller For Cheap

The Nintendo Switch has cemented itself as one of the best gaming handhelds of all time, but it's not exactly the most comfortable device to cradle for long stretches. That's where third-party companies come in, as there's a wide range of controllers that you can switch out your Joy-Cons for. Take these NexiGo controllers for example, which provide better ergonomic support and come in a relaxing range of colors. * NexiGo Switch GripCon Controller (green and blue) -- $34 ($60) * NexiGo Switch GripCon Controller (red and blue) -- $35.66 ($60) Usually priced at $60, you can save 43% on this Amazon deal that has the controllers discounted to $34. In addition to their hand-friendly grip, they also have few neat features like six-axis gyro movement support and dual-motor vibration functions. The controllers are also sturdy, are made of high-quality non-slip plastic, and come with extra joystick caps. They're also available in Mario-appropriate red and blue, although this set costs slightly more. It's worth noting that the two aforementioned models are only for the regular Switch model, but there is an OLED Switch alternative. These cost a little more ($43), but are also available in the two color schemes and work on a regular Switch. These newer models also come with four remappable back buttons.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Why Baldur's Gate 3 Is Not On Xbox At Launch And When It Could Be

One of this year's most anticipated new games, Baldur's Gate 3, releases later this week. But the game, from Belgian developer Larian, is not coming to Xbox, and it's not because of an exclusivity deal. So what's going on? Earlier this year, Larian boss Swen Vincke said the decision came down to the technical limitations of the Xbox Series S. Vincke said split-screen co-op is "a must" for the game, and the studio doesn't want to release Baldur's Gate 3 without the feature. Vincke said that bringing split-screen to the Xbox Series S version is "challenging" but he is "confident" in the team to find a way to get it done, potentially as early as by the end of 2023.Continue Reading at GameSpot

The Last of Us: The Complete First Season Now 30 Percent Off For Blu-Ray On Amazon

Video games don't have a great track record with on-screen adaptations. Thanks to HBO (and the many talented people who helped make it a reality), The Last of Us TV series is one of the few exceptions to the rule. The Last of Us reached critical acclaim with its emotional roller coaster of a first season, which is now available on DVD and Blu-ray. It might seem like less of a priority to buy the series in physical form when you can stream it from HBO. If you disagree, then this 30%-ish discount on the DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K editions might be for you.Don't let the smiles fool you The Last of Us: The Complete First Season Blu-ray is down to about $25 on Amazon. If you want an even higher resolution version, you can get The Last of Us in 4K for $40. The standard Last of Us DVD is also available for $21, which is $9 less than its original price. Still, it might be worth that extra $4 for the Blu-ray if you have a device that can play it.Continue Reading at GameSpot
