In short: Samsung announced today that it is bringing two new colors of the Galaxy Note 9. The Midnight Black is finally coming to the US, after being launched in other countries when the Galaxy Note 9 launched last month. The second color is Cloud Silver, which has a silver back and a light blue frame and S Pen, it is definitely an interesting color and may not be the color for everyone. Both colors will be available in both storage sizes as well – 128GB and 512GB.
Background: Samsung debuted the Galaxy Note 9 at Unpacked back in August. It announced four colors for the device, including Midnight Black and Copper, which were only being available in worldwide markets – not the US – at launch. But the Midnight Black color is coming to the US, likely due to demand from customers. Instead, Samsung launched the Lavender Purple and Ocean Blue colors in the US, which are definitely different compared to most phones, but people definitely wanted a black option here. And this is because a lot of people put their phones in cases, or they don’t want their phones to be all that flashy, and a black color does just that.
Impact: Prices for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 in Midnight Black and Cloud Silver are going to remain the same. That’s $999 for the 128GB and $1249 for the 512GB model. The Cloud Silver is going to be exclusive to Best Buy stores, but also be available on Best Buy and Samsung’s websites beginning October 5. The Midnight Black model will be available at all retailers that are currently selling the Galaxy Note 9 on October 12, with the 512GB model coming a couple weeks later on October 26. The Midnight Black will be available at all of the carriers, while Cloud Silver will remain exclusive to Best Buy and Samsung. It’s currently not known whether Best Buy will be selling carrier models of the Galaxy Note 9 in Cloud Silver.
