Nokia 7 Plus Now Receiving Android 9 Pie Update: Official

In Short: HMD Global has just announced that the Nokia 7 Plus is receiving Android 9 Pie update. This news follows Juho Sarvikas’ tweet from earlier this week in which he claimed that the update is in final stages of development. The Nokia 7 Plus is a part of Google’s Android One project, so you can expect a stock build of Android 9 Pie on the device. As part of the update, you will get new system navigation (optional), settings menu, and notifications, while adaptive battery power prioritization for users’ most commonly used apps and services are also included here. Adaptive and optimized brightness levels are a part of Android 9 Pie update as well, as are ‘Predictive Application Actions’. On top of everything, you’ll also get the new camera (app) v9.0 with new UI, Google Lens, and Google motion integration. This update comes with version number 3.22C, and it weighs 1.47GB, in case you were wondering.

Background: The Nokia 7 Plus was introduced by HMD Global back in February during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, and the device has been available to purchase since March. The Nokia 7 Plus is a mid-range smartphone, but it comes with rather compelling specs and design. The Nokia 7 Plus sports a 6-inch fullHD+ display, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 660 64-bit octa-core processor, while a 3,800mAh battery is also included in the package. The device originally shipped with Android 8.1 Oreo, and Bluetooth 5.0 is also included in the package. You will find 12 and 13-megapixel cameras on the back of this device, while a single 16-megapixel camera is included on the phone’s front side.

Impact: The Nokia 7 Plus was quite a capable and powerful handset with Android 8.1 Oreo, but it’s nice to that it’s receiving a new version of Android at this point.
