In short: Google has made some changes to Trips tool, allowing you to pick up from where you left off in researching for your next vacation. Typically when you are planning a trip, you might have your eye on a few different flights, some hotels, restaurants and even some events that might be happening while you are there. Next month, Google will help you manage all of that info, which includes organizing what you have saved and searched for, so you can continue where you left off. Google will also bring up things to do, as well as day plans and travel articles in search, so it’s more customized for the trip you are taking.
Background: Google’s Trips tool debuted a few years ago, and was an easy way for people to look up flights and hotel for a trip, maybe for vacation or going home for the holidays. It was, and still is, a pretty good feature to have and use. But these new features that Google is announcing today – and rolling out in October – is going to make things so much easier to plan these trips for you. Especially since you really don’t need to save anything, Google will do it all for you, itself.
Impact: In addition to helping you plan your trip, these new features also show you what the best prices are for flights in a certain time period. Imagine you are looking to fly to your family for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Typically flights around those times are pretty expensive. Google will tell you if the price you are being quoted is a good price, or if you should wait for something a bit cheaper. Now this is something that Kayak has been doing for quite a long time already, but now you can get this feature straight from the search results, without going to any other websites.
